NPR interview of Philip Glass from October 3, 2008.

My favorite part of the interview is where Glass tells the host not to play too much of the beginning of his work, Einstein on the Beach, because, “it’s a little repetitive.”

I haven’t yet seen the recent documentary film, Glass: A Portrait of Philip in Twelve Parts, but I’m looking forward to it. Check out the trailer:

Some of the pieces from Glass’s collaboration with Ravi Shankar, Passages, are among my favorite of his, to wit, Channels and Winds. Track it down!

Got liquid hydrocarbons?

Because I don’t think the world is ending, I do think the time is right to begin scaling into long energy positions for the long-term, specifically oil and natural gas, but also everything else, including coal, nuclear, and alternatives.

When the economy rebounds sufficiently for global energy demand to set new highs, the supply will not be there to meet it. There will be shortages and there will be new price highs.

Too bad it’s not feasible to build a pipeline or a fleet of space tankers to Saturn’s moon Titan, which we now know has hundreds of times more liquid hydrocarbons than Earth.

Subversive yet somewhat endearing Bunny Wailer misquote of the week.

Go as the chart of a junior silver stock. Just about any one will do. They all look more or less the same. Sort of like they ran into a brick wall and snapped their necks. Horrifying.

And in the interest of full disclosure, I must confess I feel myself developing a sort of improper, lurid attraction to them down here in the gutter. Even though I realize there really isn’t any sign of chutes opening just yet.

So, the next few months should reveal whether I’m a world class moron or just a run-of-the-mill imbecile. Seeing as bear markets have a tendency to repeatedly suck in, chew up, and spit out bottom pickers.

One of an endless number of examples, First Majestic Silver:

What can I say, assuming the world isn’t actually ending, a leap I am willing to take, people may just keep using silver. And some of these companies, from among those that remain in business, could do quite well over the next several years.

This fraud of a man deserves no respect.

Yet he denies all and still tries to salvage some shred of a legacy. I suppose we should expect no less.

Is it just me, or…

Every time it looks like the Democrats are on the verge of winning the White House and Congress do you feel an irresistible compulsion to buy truckloads of high-powered rifles, high-capacity magazines, and ammunition? I mean, in the very, very, very unlikely event they get the notion to restrict Second Amendment freedoms. Again.

Support the Second Amendment Foundation. And stock up. Because it just may be the last chance.

A matter of principle.

I’m writing his name in and I don’t give a crap that the vote won’t count. It counts to me. I will have done what I believed in.

Not real men.

Why is it that nearly every piece of shit loser politician who cheats on his wife, and gets caught, has to drag her to a press conference to do the Jim Bakker?

Welcome to the machine.
